Designing Reports in a Web App

Digilogue web design Galway have been working with INTO to develop a more robust and responsive version of their online app - SubSearch. SubSearch enables school principals to easily find substitute teachers in their area available for work on specific days. On the flip side, the app allows teachers to register their availability for substitute work on specific days. In summary, the web application matches substitute teachers with schools seeking subs.

As valuable as the service itself is to users, especially after the design upgrade and additional functionalities, we also wanted to work with INTO to bring some intelligent, strategic benefit to the web application. Thus, to facilitate making informed decisions about the future of SubSearch we developed website activity reports that go beyond the industry standard analytics.

One of the reports outlined below is a breakdown of substitute teachers available. Knowing how many teachers are available to work on particular days is a valuable indicator of what is available to schools/Principals. The reports can be filtered by counties. Finding counties with low teacher availability suggests areas in which information campaigns may be useful. The report also has a date range to preview and compare availability across different time periods.

This is just one of the many reports we have just completed for SubSearch - and have the experience and expertise to develop similar report facilities for other web applications. Get in touch and we can outline these and other possibilities for your website and/or web application.

Analytics just don’t cut it for web apps. How long and where the user is doesn't matter as much as what s/he is doing and what results s/he is getting. Knowing the number of your app user visits is not as important as their actual activity. Being able to see increases and decreases in different aspects of your app’s inner workings will help you strategically plan your next steps and anticipate both potential problems as well as successes. In short, analytics are certainly useful for demographic and general insight - but custom analytics reach far deeper and can bring strategic insight and analysis.

Reports should be an integral part of any web app to enable informed decisions about advertising, possible pivoting / future development and focus. Make sure you keep these possibilities in mind during your app development or upgrade.
