DNG-MHL Webcast of Auction in Galway May 10th

Web Design Galway firm webcasts for DNG

Congratulations to DNG-MHL (www.dnggalway.ie) on their webcast last Friday. 11 properties were auctioned and Digilogue web design Galway webcast the event live via the DNGGalway website as well as the Galway Advertiser and other websites. Technically it went really well, with media from a number of sources:

  • Pre-prepared hi-def 720p rolliing presentation of the properties with background music (shown on large TV screen as people arrived)
  • Price/Bid updating via dual-screen (ie PowerPoint text-entry updated live via external data entry - cool!)
  • Main camera on talent & backdrop
  • USB HD 720p audience camera for variety / audience shots
  • PiP (PictureInPicture) showing properties
  • Additional layer showing current bid

The livestream was webcast at 750kbps (video) & 192 kbps audio at 720x405. An archive of the stream was saved at 720p (6Mbps) for later embedding.

Tips for webcasting similar events:

  • Test 1 week beforehand and also a few hours beforehand
    • 1 week:
      • upload speed
      • camera location(s) and line of sight, light contrast
      • connections / cabling logistics: XLR from sound-desk, tripod location for a very crowded room, USB HD location and need for USB repeater, hard-wired internet connection or IOP or very last resort, wireless
    • 1 day / Earlier on the day
      • arrive early - buffer extra hour for setup / parking!
      • cameras - light/contrast/exposure and match between USB and main camera
      • Sound levels in general & sound desk settings
      • Shot setup for PiP and titling and lower thirds / bidding price
      • Dry run
  • Adjust streaming bitrate to suit available local bandwidth (40% to 60% of upload speed is usually safe).
  • Prepare Plan Bs (notice shot, logo shot, MP4 file loop of properties, etc.)

Best of luck!

  • Enniscrone Golf Club are very pleased with the professional upgrade and redesign of their Web Site in 2012. The level of consultation and back up support through out the whole process was second to none. It was very much a hands on approach which required a good deal of almost daily consultation and discussion and Digilogue were very generous with their time.

  • Our experience of working with Digilogue has been overwhelmingly positive. They are extremely supportive and have a, ‘we can solve that’ approach to every difficult issue we identified. I find them helpful in explaining technical jargon, and at the same time finding a simple means of putting manageable systems in place. They have an ability to mix various digital media in order to develop an attractive and user friendly system
