Ten Tips for planning Web Video production

Digilogue plan, develop and implement web video for clients in the areas of marketing, elearning and general communication. Web video is a powerful way to communicate - it's personal, succinct, and develops a relationship between the creator and viewer.

Digilogue web development use the list below to help plan web video with clients....

  1. Purpose: What is the aim of the video(s)/presentation? To influence, showcase, motivate, challenge, etc? Also what do you want the viewer to do because of the fact that they have watched the video?
  2. Audience: List the audiences that the video is aimed at, and for each, list what change of behaviors or attitudes are we hoping to achieve. Also outline how might these be measured?
  3. Client: Who are the stakeholders, decision-makers – and how they will contribute to planning, sign-offs and other decisions?

  • Storyboard & Planning: Consider style, flow, length, segments – and how these contribute to effectiveness. Consider the 3 ‘layers’ of
    • Script – what’s being said orally / textually / other
    • Screen – what video is on the screen
    • Media (titling, additional media, animation, transitions)
  • Timeline: What are the milestone dates? Schedule requirements gathering, storyboarding and approval, assets gathering (text, images, previous clips, etc.) videoing, draft1 of one sample, post-production, titling, completion & deployment eg using Vimeo so you can embed on website to be viewable on iPad & smartphone as well as desktop
  • Budget: A broad estimate of budget is needed to ascertain what level and amount of video is feasible, what levels of post-production, etc. This should be agreed as early as possible to establish reasonable expectation for both client and Digilogue. Costing and timeline estimates should be signed off as early as possible after requirements and objectives agreement.
  • Project Management: Planning, communication, roles/tasks delegation and task implementation.
  • Message: Review primary message and assess how accurate and focused the video is.
  • Integration: Does the piece have to fit certain branding guidelines, or fit in with existing campaigns?
  • Video Metrics: Agree ways to monitor and assess usage, accessibility and effectiveness of media
